Project Scope:
R. J. Watson was selected by Tutor Perini in 2018 to supply 260 disc bearings for a Maryland Transportation Authority project on the Canton Viaduct (I-895 over I-95 Ramps, Railroad Tracks, and Harbor) in Baltimore, Maryland. The $189.4M contract is a three-year project to replace a 3,300-ft bridge, rehabilitation of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. The new bridge will be a 3,155-ft, 19 span steel girder bridge. The disc bearings for this project will vary from 119 kips to 1,588 kips of vertical service load with a 10% to 31% horizontal service load. The longitudinal displacement for the expansion bearings ranges from 3.375″ to 6.375″, and the Transverse displacement is 2.00″. The service rotational capacity is +/- 0.02 radians. The consulting engineer for this design-bid-build project is Whitman Requardt & Associates. This project is expected to be completed in the Summer of 2021.
