Construction moves along on the BNSF Bridge #31 over the Mojave River in Victorville, California. Ames Construction along with Consulting Engineers TKDA were awarded the $71 Million contract to build the plate girder bridge, which is now in service replacing the truss.
R. J. Watson provided 28 fixed and guided expansion disc bearings equipped to handle a vertical load ranging from 428 kips to 767 kips. The horizontal loads range from 16% to 24% of the vertical load, and the design rotation is ± 0.015 radians. The expansion bearings were designed for 2″ of longitudinal displacement and 0.125″ of transverse displacement.
