R.J. Watson to Supply 146 Structural Bearings for TxDOT’s Southeast Connector Megaproject
R.J. Watson is proud to play a key role in the Texas Department of Transportation’s Southeast Connector Project, one of the most ambitious infrastructure undertakings in the state. As part of this transformative effort in Tarrant County, we are supplying 146 custom-engineered structural bearingsthat will support a complex system of bridges and elevated interchanges.
This Design-Build project, led by South-Point Constructors—a joint venture between Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. and Austin Bridge & Road—covers approximately 16 miles of I-20, I-820, and US 287, all within the Texas Clear Lanes Initiative aimed at improving mobility, reducing congestion, and increasing safety in the Fort Worth area.
Supporting Structures That Keep Texas Moving
The project involves major reconstruction, realignment, and capacity expansion across several segments:
- I-20 from Forest Hill Drive to Park Springs Boulevard
- I-820 from I-20 to Brentwood Stair Road
- US 287 from Bishop Street to Sublett Road
The structural demands across these segments are significant, requiring bearing systems capable of accommodating high rotation, varied load capacities, and long-term durability in a fast-paced, high-impact construction environment.
Each of the 146 bearings is being custom-designed, manufactured, and tested at our facility in New York. Our in-house testing capabilities, including one of the largest certified test presses in the Eastern U.S., ensure that every component meets the highest performance standards before delivery.
