Toronto, ON – As Toronto’s skyline continues to evolve, the Ontario Line stands out as one of the most transformative transit projects in the city’s history

The Ontario Line will span 15.6 kilometers, linking Exhibition Place to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, drastically reducing commute times and improving transit reliability for hundreds of thousands of daily riders. Three key bridges—the Don Valley Crossing, the West Don Crossing, and the Beth Nealson Underpass—will form vital links over the Don Valley, requiring highly specialized infrastructure to withstand the demands of a dynamic urban environment.

Our contribution? The fabrication of 22 precision-engineered disc bearings, designed to accommodate extreme loads ranging from 911 kips (4,052 kN) to 3,413 kips (15,181 kN). These bearings are essential in managing structural movement while resisting uplift forces, ensuring that the bridges remain stable under varying conditions such as temperature shifts, wind loads, and seismic activity.

Metrolinx, the project’s owner, has partnered with Leaside Valley Builders—a joint venture comprising Construction Demathieu & Bard, Kenaidan Contracting, Ltd., and EBC, Inc.—to oversee construction, with HDR, Inc. leading the bridge design. The Ontario Line, set for completion in 2028, will reshape Toronto’s transit landscape, providing faster, more efficient connections across the city.

At RJ Watson, we take pride in delivering innovative bridge solutions that stand the test of time. As the Ontario Line progresses, we remain committed to supporting world-class infrastructure projects that move people forward—one bridge at a time.
