The I-635 East project in Dallas, Texas is a widening and reconstruction project of 11 miles of highway roads and bridges by the Texas DOT to relieve congestion and improve safety.
The project was awarded to a joint venture of Fluor Corporation and Balfour Beatty Construction, with AECOM as lead design engineer, for $1.75 billion. This joint venture, called Pegasus Link Constructors, has successfully completed several high-profile design build projects for the State of Texas in its 20+ year history. Together, the organizations will design, build, finance, operate, and maintain this project for 15 years.
RJ Watson disc bearings were selected for their high load capacity and excellent long-term durability for the Skillman Street Arch Bridge over I-635 on the East side of the Dallas Beltway—one part of the larger I-635 East project located northeast of downtown Dallas. The bridge is a steel tied arch structure with a span of 282 feet. A total of six bearings were installed. The project was awarded in August 2019 and construction began in Spring 2020. The project is scheduled to be substantially completed in late 2024.
