R. J. Watson was selected by Cardi Corp. in 2017 to supply 18 EQS seismic isolation bearings for a design-bid-build Rhode Island Dept. of Transportation project on Horton Farm Road Bridge (S.R. 114/Eastern Shore Expressway over I-195), in East Providence, Rhode Island. The $16.6M contract will replace the existing 34 year old bridge deck and supports considered structurally deficient due to concrete and steel corrosion. The EQS seismic isolation bearings for this project ranged from 155 kips to 475 kips of vertical service load with a 2% to 6% horizontal service load. The one-way thermal longitudinal displacement for the isolation bearings ranged from 0.63″ to 1.3″, and the one-way seismic longitudinal displacement was 1.5″. The service rotational capacity was +/- 0.015 radians. The consulting engineer for this design-bid-build project was Louis Berger Associates. This project is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2019.
