Back in 2016 the design/build team of Skanska and WSP was selected to build twin basket handle style arches over the Pensacola Bay in Florida. The $400 million contract comprises a 4.2 mile long structure carrying SR 30 (US 98) over the bay. The DB team selected Disktron Bearings manufactured by RJ Watson due to their long term durability and cost effective design. There are a total of 28 bearings with vertical capacities ranging from 500 to 1275 kips and rotational capacities of 0.015 radians. With the eastbound structure set to open soon the contractor is now focusing on the westbound bridge set to open in 2020.
